Term 4 - Week 3 & 4 ๐Ÿ˜

 Dear parents,

We have loved seeing the children settle in to Term 4 the last fortnight. We cant believe there is only 7 weeks to go until the children are in Year Three ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Just a few notes...

Homework

On Monday we will be sending home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our blog post titled 'Week 4 Information' which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list ๐Ÿ’“ is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds ๐Ÿค“

Learning Intentions

English:

This week we are learning the sound 'ge' as in cage, 'dge' as in bridge and suffixes.  This fortnights tricky words are: though, around, interesting & shouldn't.

Since the beginning of term, we have been reviewing what a narrative text is. We learnt in Term One
that the purpose of a narrative text is to entertain the reader.

We are going to begin looking at our mentor text 'Little Bo Peep'. This fortnight we will be reconstructing the mentor text (orientation, build up, complication, climax, resolution & ending) and completing a cloze activity. We will then be completing a class brainstorm that we can use to magpie ideas from when we start to innovate the mentor text to create our very own version.

Please see below our class mentor text which demonstrates what the children should be consolidating and extending on since this was taught in Term One and is a revision.

Grandparents Day - This will be celebrated on Friday 28th October so please make sure that your child has taken the time to invite their grandparents along if possible. Grandparents are invited to gather in the hall for a light afternoon tea from 1:30pm.

At 1:50pm, grandparents are invited to visit the classrooms of their grandchildren where we will show them some of our fantastic work that we have completed over the term (similar to learning journeys).

We will then all gather in the hall at 2:30pm for an assembly.

Important dates:

  • Pupil Free Day - Friday, 11th November
  • Christmas Concert - Wednesday 7th December
We hope you have a lovely first week back and please contact me if you have any questions or queries.
