Term 3, Week 7 & 8 Information ๐
Dear parents,
We hope you have all enjoyed an extra long weekend, whether you managed to escape for a few days or enjoy the time at home.
Please find below the information for the following fortnight...
Homework
On Monday we will be sending home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our blog post titled 'Week 4 Information' which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list ๐ is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds ๐ค
Our sounds this week are soft 'c', soft 'g' and prefix 're'. Have a look at the posters below for the rule of when to use these sounds:
Assembly
Please note the date of our assembly has been changed to Thursday 15th of September. All information regarding our assembly is on the blog post titled 'Year Two Assembly Information, 2022'. If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher.
Operation Christmas Child
All the children in Year Two will soon participate in 'Operation Christmas Child' which is an initiative with the goal of packing shoeboxes full of little surprises to give to a child who may have never received a gift before. By participating in this our children will have a first hand experience aimed at building the school value of compassion.
Your child will be grouped with three other children to contribute and pack the shoe box. The cost to send a shoe box will be $2.50 per child. We are asking you to encourage your child to do something extra at home to earn the money that is needed to buy the item to put into the provided shoe box.
Please see below an example of the provided shoe box for Operation Christmas child:
This week, your child will bring home a note which shows you what kind of items can be sent away in the shoebox. We are asking for all donations to be brought to school by Friday 16th September (Week 9) please. It is very exciting for the children to share in this initiative which has been a part of the O.L.C. Community for the last 18 years.
There is no need to bring in shoe boxes, as we have been kindly donated them from The Samaritans Purse.
PLEASE DO NOT BRING IN TOOTHPASTE
Have a look on the website for more information :)

Open Afternoon
This week we will be holding an open afternoon on Thursday 1st of September. The students will have work displayed around the room as well as a few samples on their desks to show. The classroom will be open from 3:15-5:00pm. If you are available, please drop in for a look. Your child's writing books, InitiaLit books and term three scrapbooks will be on their desks.
There will also be a slip of paper on your child's desk for you to stick on your child's favourite piece of work. This can be work that is hanging up around the classroom or in any of their books.
Book Week
Last Thursday, the children participated in Book Week. It was great to see all the creative costumes. Please see below some photos of the children in costumes.
