Term 3 - Week 5 & 6 π
Dear parents,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some of the glorious sunshine we have had today before the rain sets back in for the week. Can you believe we are in the final weeks of winter and are already in Week 5 of Term 3π
Homework
On Monday we will be sending home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our blog post titled 'Week 4 Information' which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list π is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds π€
English:
This week we are reviewing the 'eer' as in cheer, 'ear' as in ear, 'air' as in hair and 'are' as in beware. This fortnights tricky words are:through, every, only, surprise and revision of build & tomorrow .
Last week, we began learning about the concept of Division and how when completing division we need to share the total amount equally. We have learnt that we a division sum can be represented by equal groups, an array, repeated subtraction, skip counting and even using a division sum.
Have a look as the poster below to see how we have started to learn about division:
Year Two Behaviour
Over the last few weeks, both Year Two teachers have noticed a change in behaviour in both the boys and girls. This includes behaviour both inside and outside the classroom and have had multiple specialist teachers and teachers on duty approaching us informing of us inappropriate behaviours.
These behaviours include: not listening, saying 'I don't want to do it or do I have too?' , blatantly ignoring teacher or other adult instructions e.g. EA, drawing on whiteboards during mat sessions, not including friends in games and not respecting each others personal space.
Mr Torrese came and spoke to the whole cohort in regards to these innappropriate behaviours and reinforced that we should be showing the four OLC school values of Compassion, Appreciation, Respect & Excellence and that if any of these behaviours continue, Mr Torrese will be contacting parents to have a meeting.
We would greatly appreciate, if you could chat to your child and reinforce the behaviours that are expected at school.
Performance Assembly
Please keep Friday 9th of September free as both Year Two classes have their performance assembly. I am sure you have all heard how we have started to practice our performance. The children are all very excited and have wanted to practice the song at home. Please find the link below if your child would like to practice.
Please keep an eye on the blog in the coming weeks for more information to follow about speaking parts and costumes.

A big thank you to all parents who donated popcorn and the generosity of our families and students. The Year Two teachers were busy popping popcorn from 7am to get made 400 bags for the children. It was a great day and the school raised over $2188 for Caritas to send to Ukraine. The children had a great day and we raised a huge amount of money. See below some of the fun we got up too...
