Week Seven Information

Good afternoon parents,

We hope you had a lovely long weekend last week and enjoy this weekend. It was so nice hearing about all the exciting adventures you all got up too. Can you believe we are already going into Week 7? Time clearly flies by when you are having so much fun!

Homework

On Monday we will be sending home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our blog post titled 'Week 4 Information' which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list ๐Ÿ’“ is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds ๐Ÿค“

Learning Intentions

English:

This week we are learning the spelling sounds 'soft c' as in cent, 'soft g' as in giraffe, '_dge' as in bridge  and the tricky words for this fortnight are - walk, another, other, water, talk, great

We have now finished our unit of work on the text genre recount and will be completing a 'Hot Task'. This is where the children are given a topic, 10 minutes to complete a planner that will help them to structure their recount and then a further 30 minutes to write their recount. This is completed indepedently, with no adult support, to showcase what each child has learnt throughout our unit of recount.

We will now be starting to focus on the text genre of narrative. The children will complete a 'Cold Task' which is completed the same way as the 'Hot Task' but is used to inform our teaching so we are able to cater for each individual needs. We will also be looking at different images and how we can use a range of adjectives to describe a setting and character. This will help us to add more detail into our writing and to engage the reader.

Maths:

This week, we will be finishing up our focus on addition and subtraction and commencing looking at skip counting and number patterns. We will be learning to:

Describe patterns with numbers and identify missing elements (ACMNA035)
  • describing a pattern created by skip counting and representing the pattern on a number line'
  • investigating features of number patterns resulting from adding twos, threes, fives or 10s

As you will see below, on the 21st of March OLC will be celebrating World Down Syndrome Day by having a crazy sock day. We are going to be designing our crazy socks and ask that you send in a pair of socks for Wednesday 16th of March. We ask that these socks be 'short socks' (see image below for different sock types) or longer as this will allow your child more room for creativity. Your child will design their 'crazy socks' and then able to paint their wonderful designs on and showcase to the rest of the school the following Monday.

We appreciate your support in this wonderful celebration and fundraiser!

World Down Syndrome Day ๐Ÿ’•๐ŸŒ

Dear Parents,

As you may already be aware World Down Syndrome Day on the 21st of March.  To celebrate this day this year, we are holding a whole school activity centred around the celebration of the day whilst also raising awareness and raising some money for the Down Syndrome WA organisation at the same time. On Monday the 21st of March, we will be hosting a crazy sock day at school. However, it will have a twist, the students will design their sock in art the week before the date (next week). This will celebrate everybody and their individualities and their creativities. What we need from you? Can you please send an old light colour pair of socks to school with your child next week? (Please do not purchase a new one). Can you please make sure that the socks have the students name on the inside? The students will then decorate them during art class. It will be amazing to see all those sock designs on the day and would be a great way to reiterate the true meaning of the day about celebrating people's uniqueness. Then on the 21st of March, the students will wear their awesome designed socks and if possible, bring a gold coin donation for Down Syndrome WA.

Thank you,

Miss Hurst

Thanks for your ongoing support!
