Welcome to Week Six
I hope you all managed to stay warm and keep out of the rain this weekend! I was lucky enough to have a little girls weekend away full of belly laughs and delicious food. I hope you all had some time with your gorgeous families!
Just a few messages for this week:
OLC Celebrates National Sorry Day – Bring a T Shirt!
Wednesday the 26th May marks National Sorry Day and Thursday the 27th marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. These are important dates for us to acknowledge as we work toward harmony and intercultural understanding as a nation.
The theme for Reconciliation week this year is: More than a word … Reconciliation takes action. Considering this theme, we are planning on conducting a whole school event involving all OLC students, and parents are asked dress their child with either a black, red or yellow T shirt (any shade or hue is fine) and black sports shorts on the day of WEDNESDAY 26TH OF MAY. This might not mean buying a T-Shirt – school sports shirts for Meelup and Leeuwin could be worn, or any T’s you already have at home which are predominantly one of these colours will be fine. Stay tuned to our Social Media platforms during Reconciliation Week to see the fruits of out labours!
Star Citizen π⭐✨

Wheelie Walkie Waste-free Wednesday π²πΆ♀️πΆ♂️π΄π₯
The last five weeks, the children have been walking, wheeling and bringing waste free lunches and although all of the factions tried their best, it was Naturaliste that took out the win! Naturaliste will be able to wear free dress this Friday (28th of May). π’ππ©
Visiting Artist π¨πΌπ©π¨
Last week we were lucky enough to be visited by a local artist Rebecca Cool. We have been looking at Rebecca's art work over the last few weeks and the children were so excited to meet her and show her some of our artwork. Rebecca is known for her art which has been featured in many children's books such as 'Isabella's Garden' and 'Can I come too, Eliza Lou?'. Rebecca was kind enough to read these books to us and then presented us with an artist problem of drawing 'a sneeze'. The children loved using Rebecca's art techniques to draw their version of 'a sneeze'. We even learnt that Rebecca Cool's birth name is Cool, which is dutch for cabbage!
Our art project looks at Rebecca's Cats and how she uses human like faces to illustrate them. The children were so happy to meet one of the artist that we are studying.
Behaviour
We have noticed an increase in rough and silly behaviour both out in the playground and during explicit teaching times. We understand the children are beginning to get tired and that the workload is increasing in the lead up to reports. However, we do not condone this behaviour that does not respect our four school values, therefore both 2M & 2W boys were sat down today to talk about what is appropriate and inappropriate behaviours that are accepted in the playground and classroom and where to go if they require help during break times.
We revisited the Friendology guidelines and spoke out:
1. Using a quick comeback to tell the other person that what they are doing is not okay.
2. If it cannot be resolved, to go and get a teacher who is always wearing a fluro yellow vest on duty.
We have had to discuss numerous times over the last few weeks that playing any type of ball sport is very different at OLC compared to weekend sport games as we have noticed an increase in tackling and physical contact.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could reinforce this at home with your child as we want school to be a happy environment that all children can enjoy.
Dear OLC Community,
As you know one of our family's recently suffered the unexpected loss of their husband and father in February this year. Dave Clift was husband to Annmarie and dad to Violet in Year 5H, and to former OLC students Damon (17), and Sunny (15). Annmarie has been overwhelmed by the love and support she has already received in terms of willing listeners, shoulders to cry on and lovingly prepared meals. Many people have continued to ask how they might best help the family as they move forward. Here is a way. Without Dave and an income, Annmarie could really use some financial support. If you are able, even if in a small way to contribute to this Go Fund Me Campaign, she would be forever grateful. Thank you and may God Bless you.
