Just a few notes for the fortnight ahead...
Homework
On Monday we will be sending home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our blog post titled 'Week 4 Information' which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list π is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds π€
English:
This week we are learning the sound 'au' as in autumn, 'aw' as in claw, 'or' as in sport and 'ore' as in store. This fortnights tricky words are words that have been previously taught and that the children are still needing some revision in.This fortnights tricky words are: women, believe, many, saw, favourite and before.
Grades and comments are being finalised into next week and formal reports will be sent home in electronic form via SEQTA on the final day of term.
Our Semester Two reports grading align with the Western Australian curriculum and achievement standards for Year 2. We encourage you to read the first opening page of the report which explains what each grade letter means in association with the SCSA WA curriculum rather than thinking about the grade letters we used to receive in our schooling years. A 'C grade' on your child's report is likened to an average achievement grade and relates to the majority of the WA year 2 population achievement/progression level of the curriculum and our OLC reports also include their personal values and attitudes for their learning.
If your child receives a 'C' grade, this is the expected level of achievement.
I am so proud of how far they have personally all come over the semester and their dedication towards achieving individual goals.
Each year at OLC we take time to be thankful for our blessings and to assist those in need by contributing to Christmas Hampers distributed by the St. Vincent De Paul Society. This year boxes will be located in EACH CLASSROOM and families are invited to contribute specified items. Please look out for boxes coming your way in the next few days. The Year Two classes are asked to donate pantry items sich as: Tinned foods, pasta, rice, biscuits, crackers, sauces, jams, condiments, (basically any non-perishable good food, which can be used beyond Christmas). Please no baked beans or tinned vegetables.
