Term 2, Week 5 information

 Dear Parents,

We hope you had a lovely weekend and enjoyed some of that Saturday sunshine before the rain on Sunday! Unfortunately I have joined the crowds and I am isolating at home with COVID  πŸ˜ͺ I will hopefully be back by Thursday this week to see your beautiful children. I hope all of you are also keeping healthy and well during these difficult times.

Just a few pieces of information for the upcoming fortnight...

Homework

On Monday we will be sending home the Year Two fluency grid with this fortnights focus sounds and tricky words. Have a look at our blog post titled 'Week 4 Information' which shows you how you can use this at home to increase your child's reading fluency. We have also included all of the spelling lists for your information on the back of the fluency grid. The pink list πŸ’“ is the target for Year Two from our InitiaLit program. Please feel free to use these lists at home to increase your child's spelling abilities. Have a look at our Fluency grids and spelling lists below to see our focus sounds πŸ€“

Learning Intentions

English:

This week we are learning the spelling sounds 'igh' as in light, 'ie' as in pie and 'y' as in cry. The tricky words for this fortnight are - who, people, something, what.

Last week, we focused on learning the difference between a fact and an opinion. We learnt that a fact is something that can be proven to be true and an opinion is what someone thinks or feels. This week we will be continuing our focus on the text genre of information reports and will begin to look at our information text called 'The Trabbit'. The Trabbit is a mythical hybrid animal that was last seen around the grounds of OLC, so keep your eyes peeled...

We have also been learning within the InitaLit program the difference between an imaginative text and an informative text.
Maths

Last week, we finished focusing on telling time. We focused on telling time to the quarter-hour, using the language of 'past' and 'to' on an anologue clock, digitally and in words.

IMPORTANT INFO We know that a lot of children have been absent over the last fortnight while we were teaching the concept of Time. Our next Math Seesaw assessment will be our Time Post test but as a lot of children were absent for the bulk of the teaching and learning cycle, we will be revisiting this concept in term 4. Please have a look at the rubric and goals we will attach to the learning sample and have a look to see where your child currently sits in their understanding of time. Please contact myself if you need any further clarification.

This week we will begin focusing on 2D and 3D shapes. This includes identifying how many sides, corners and edges each shape has.

  • Describe and draw two-dimensional shapes, with and without digital technologies (ACMMG042)

St Vincent De Paul

Hi everyone, you have probably heard about the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal.  This is a program that helps people that are less fortunate than us going into winter to stay warm. We are collecting any warm clothes and blankets that you are not using. There will be a box at the front office you can put your items by the 23rd of May. Any questions go to Xavier Armstrong in 6H

Wheels After Meals (WAM)

Our next “Wheels After Meals” is at lunchtime on Tuesday 24 May. All students from years 1-6 are most welcome to bring along their scooter, skateboard, roller-skates, helmet and protective gear. All equipment can be left on the car park side of Mr Lee’s office before school and collected at the end of the day. At lunchtime we close the gates to the top car park and the students ride in a clockwise direction after eating their lunch.
